A courtroom is a room where people gather to talk about a case.
There are places for the judge, lawyers, witnesses, and other people involved in the case.
When the judge enters, you will be asked to stand up.
Some courtrooms are large.
Some are small.
Every courtroom is a little different.
A trial is when people come to court to share information about a case.
The judge, and sometimes a jury, listen carefully.
Different people may talk during the trial.
Lawyers may ask questions
Witnesses may answer questions.
The trial may take one day or several days.
Every case is different, even yours.
To testify means to answer questions in court.
You may be asked questions about things you remember.
The prosecutor may ask questions first.
The defense attorney may also ask questions.
Remember
Tell the truth.
Listen carefully to each question.
Ask for a question to be repeated if you need to hear it again.
Say “I don’t know” if you do not know.
Say “I don’t remember” if you do not remember.
Ask for clarification if you do not understand. You do not have to guess.
